WOYWW 104 - The Anniversary is here!

How exciting!  To be part of something that crosses the world on one day a week, where people share their desks, be they creative or not (but they mostly are), tidy or not (but they mostly are not!), and now we get to share some real craft items between our community too.

We are celebrating the 2nd year anniversary of Julia's great idea "What's on your workdesk Wednesday" and it involves Paying it Forward to the person next on the list to link up with their work space.  I've been working on something but as usual I'm not happy with it.  Its tricky for someone like me who normally is purely a scrapper, to make something to give to someone else - who wants a scrap book page of someone else's kids they've never met?!   Anyway, I had better get on and finish it so it is ready to send today!

Seeing as I can't show you my own workspace, I thought I would share my children's workspace.

This area is half utility room (through the arch) and half wasted space but with a tiled floor and a sink, away from the rest of the house, it seemed perfect for a messy play area.

This is where the children do their painting, junk modelling, play dough, sticking etc.  In theory.  Of course they want to drag it into the kitchen but the idea is there.  It is part way through having a sort out, hence the mess but there is an easel and usually a child sized table.

Now that I have started to play with inks and paints more and more, I am starting to think that maybe I should use this space too!  I'm already planning a trip to Ikea for some suitable storage for this area on the walls but I like that the children have a gallery here too but it gives me something to think about.

It's L's 5th birthday tomorrow and we have my MIL staying (she always brings cakes...) so things are hectic here but I am going to grab a cuppa, peruse the other desks, and find out which poor soul is going to be the recipient of my ....... (well that would be telling wouldn't it!)  Pop back tomorrow for the reveal ;-)

Bye for now.

  5. Hi - I think it would be lovely to share craft space with children as they have such uncluttered minds and give us much inspiration. Think I am to be the lucky receipient of your PIF so if you e-mail me I will pass on my address. I am a scrapbooker too so whatever your PIF I'm sure it will be lovely. It is a great idea and PIF things gives everyone a chance to create something unique for a great idea.

  10. It IS amazing to be linked to folks across the world every Wednesday, isn't it? What a fantastic crafting space for your kids! I wish I could have such a dedicated space (with easy-to-wipe-off tile, no less!) You are giving them a great gift to let them spread their creative wings. I say, get on in there and splash around in the paint with them! ;-) Happy WOYWW!

It must be great have a dedicated workspace for the kids and I love the gallery on the wall. What better way to show them that you love the things they make.

  12. In my opinion scrappers have the best eyes for colour pallet, composition and matching words with image - you do art journalism and call it scrapping or crops I think..

yep scrapping pages certainly inspire my art journalling...

    happy 104

ps your kids are so lucky to have messy space to splodge their art work, - and I'm sure it's just that they want to be with you/show off their work in kitchen, not that they do not appreciate the space you made for them.

  21. Great space for messy play, I love the height of the artwork pinned to the walls! I often watch those tv programmes where couples try to find a nice house to buy and they talk about the furthest room away from anything being good for a playroom. And I end up shouting at the tv - the kids want you to be around when they're playing..they won't play at the other end of the house on their own..specially if you're doing something vaguely interesting!! Like trying to have five minutes to yourself, go potty, bake something....you get it!!
